that despite all this trouble, i am still making good pace reading Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, which is so wonderful. AND we now live right down the block from a co-op, which we will be joining. AND we have a fenced-in backyard. AND our up-stairs neighbors are art student, one of which is canadian. AND our rent is super cheap.
so, all isnt bad, i am just mad at the system.

why all of a sudden we live in Riverwest. well, here's a little story:
once upon a time, jenn and damien and levon lived in a crappy apartment in saint francis. all within one week, their van stopped working, jenn's grampa was killed in a car accident, and a few other things happened, therefore resulting in many unforseen expenses. so jenn and damien talked to their friendly apartment management company, and it was decided that rent would be a little bit late, but that was okay, considering the circumstances. a few days go by, and jenn and damien recieve an eviction notice on their door. they go to court to fight it, but are a few minutes late, which results in a settlement without their presence. (jenn and damien have really bad luck some times.) however, the same day as the court settlement thingy, jenn recieved a phone call from one of the apartments they had looked at, saying that we were free to move in at any time. so now jenn and damien and levon live in riverwest, to the dismay of jenn's family, who believe that this is a horrible place to live, in which we will be robbed and killed many times over. (which is not only false, but terribly lame of them, knowing this was our last resort, other than living in a non-running van down by the river, in which case, riverwest IS by the river.)
i want to use this as an opportunity to step up on a box, and preach to you all about the evils of capitalism, and how we live in a society where money is the almighty deciding factor for everything, and the welfare of the people does not matter whatsoever. but i think i have already made my point with the story.

The Tax Day leafletting and demonstration went well. At one point, we thought we had some pro-war folks demoing against us, but turned out they were Jesus freaks trying to benefit from the passing traffic of people getting their taxes mailed in. Lots of singing and drumming, and a passer-by brought us coffee and doughnuts. The huge temperature drop didn't matter much after a few minutes, and everyone was moving and dancing and shouting enough to keep warm. Most of the people driving past were neutral. Some shook their heads, shouted at us, or flipped us off. Others flashed peace signs, or car-danced along with the drumming. I was almost disappointed when it was time to go, as we were having such a good time.
Looking forward to Saturday, back on 27th and Oklahoma, where you get the reactions that only south-siders can give.

first of all, fuck this media coverage. the next time i hear a "talking head" say how "amazing" the footage of bombs going off in iraq is, i am going on a killing spree.the sight of bombs going off, things blowing up, is a pretty good sign that things are being destroyed and people are being killed. this isn't amazing, it's an ATROCITY.and AMERICA IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS. we should not be proud, we should feel deep shame that for some reason, our country thinks that it has it's god's permission to kill innocent people. we should be ashamed that we lived so complacent for so long, until a "president" stole an election, and people hate us enough to fly planes into our buildings, and now we call these wars we wage "liberating" and "retribution". and here, on our own land, we harass muslims, and people from the middle east, and we complain when they speak their language, and and we complain when they pray to allah, and we even kill them, make them move out of their houses. they are afraid, their children are afraid. "send them back where they came from!" it's a shame no one said that when the germans, the polish, the dutch, the british, etc. they came over to america hundreds of years ago to take the land from the natives. we cheer when we see on tv of an american soldier smashing a picture of saddam, but we boo michael moore when he says the words that so many americans are thinking. "shame on you, mr. bush." secondly, don't call me un-american or anti-troop. fuck you for calling me that. if i was against america, i would have moved from here already. i am here, and i am working towards a peaceful future, and a future where there will be no more wars, no more "collateral damage". how dare we give such a name to someone's life. "a footnote", "collateral damage". what if it was you? your mother, your children? would you be so quick to dismiss? i am for ALL the troops, the people who are fighting an unjust war, some of them against their wishes. more people who will die for a fake president frat-boy's wet dream.
just who in the hell do we thing we are??

tomorrow (saturday) at farwell and brady 11am-1pm.
it seems to me that, at this point, the only thing i can say is this...
"Masters of War" -Bob Dylan.
Come you masters of war You that build all the guns You that build the death planes You that build the big bombs You that hide behind walls You that hide behind desks I just want you to know I can see through your masks
You that never done nothin' But build to destroy You play with my world Like it's your little toy You put a gun in my hand And you hide from my eyes And you turn and run farther When the fast bullets fly
Like Judas of old You lie and deceive A world war can be won You want me to believe But I see through your eyes And I see through your brain Like I see through the water That runs down my drain
You fasten the triggers For the others to fire Then you set back and watch When the death count gets higher You hide in your mansion As young people's blood Flows out of their bodies And is buried in the mud
You've thrown the worst fear That can ever be hurled Fear to bring children Into the world For threatening my baby Unborn and unnamed You ain't worth the blood That runs in your veins
How much do I know To talk out of turn You might say that I'm young You might say I'm unlearned But there's one thing I know Though I'm younger than you Even Jesus would never Forgive what you do
Let me ask you one question Is your money that good Will it buy you forgiveness Do you think that it could I think you will find When your death takes its toll All the money you made Will never buy back your soul
And I hope that you die And your death'll come soon I will follow your casket In the pale afternoon And I'll watch while you're lowered Down to your deathbed And I'll stand o'er your grave 'Til I'm sure that you're dead

Great Sign Quotes from Yesterday's MKE Demo marco 9:34am Sun Mar 16 '03 article#2433
BUSH IMPERIAL SERIAL KILLER Great Sign Quotes from Yesterday's MKE Demo
My participation in the vigil yesterday on Oklahoma and 27th began with my watching http://www.transitv.com
Not that I wanted to perse, you could say I was coerced. [ http://www.geocities.com/CapitolHill/9118/mike.html ]
I was taking the 27 bus from my place to the vigil. There were 5 or 6 flatscreen televisions bolted to the ceiling inside the citybus and the volume was somewhere between 6 and 10. You cannot get away from it on this trip. I know of only one other bus in town doing this to people so far, and that's along Water street. I imagine they're phasing them in at great subsidy from General Electric, NBC and whatever other goons are taking advantage of our current state of poverty and economic instability.
The IRS is going to get you if you don't call a 1900 number and let them advise you on how to get a better tax return. Your house is not safe unless you buy this certain security system. If your eyesight is bad you can buy an "owl" (tm) magnifying glass to read smallprint. And if you leave the plaque and gingevitis on your teeth, no sexy girls will ever kiss you.
Oh yeah, the Declaration of Independence is missing. And a 2-pack of T-Shirts cost 59cents back in 1959.
Be honest with you, I wonder if the Declaration of CoDependence (did I say that?) was ever written, then. Maybe it was the nation's first recorded "vapor-ware hoax."
Bill Gates eat your heart out.
Boise Cascade just announced they're going to slash 700 jobs. So what else is new?
The first hour of the vigil goes on with only one or two patrolmen anywhere near us. We're pretty much left alone.
But then [12 NOON] a big blue and white police transport vehicle comes whipping by us and makes a right turn off into the distance, sirens blaring. It seems to be full of cops, but I'm not sure how dense. Perhaps many are on their bellies inside like the Ryder truck that took the Klan in and out of milwaukee during that World Church of the Creator, National Alliance rally a while back. I saw two in the front and a couple in the back as it whizzed by.
Along comes [1205] the intelligence department of the police, with their grey late model sedans and their cam-corders and their handshakes and their willingness to work directly with any and all rally coordinators. So now their's 5 squad cars visible and a sedan or two. The transport vehicle is nowhere to be found. [12:15] Ambulances and police cars whiz by pretty regularly with sirens blaring for a few minutes and then seem to subside for the rest of the vigil.
Someone tells me about a great Kevin Phillips book I should read, and also Arianna Huffington's newest book "pigs at the trough."
I meet Jennifer Morales for the first time, having seen her speak at a couple rallies including the Mothers Day one.
She recommends reading a report on the Project for the New American Century, a thinktank including Perle, Wolfowitz and Rumsfeld.
[1255] "Well, do you want to go, so we can beep as we go by?" a father asks of his two children, toward the end of this vigil of about 220 people which has swelled down now to about 160.
"Yeah!" says the oldest of the two.
In a matter of minutes it winds its way down to 30 or 40 who linger quite a bit longer. Maybe 15 minutes or so.
I'll end by listing some of my favorite signs at this event.
ONCE THE PIN IS PULLED, MR. GRENADE IS NOT OUR FRIEND
DON'T DO IT DUBYA! DADDY WILL STILL LOVE YOU.
HOW DID OUR OIL GET UNDER THEIR SAND
BUSH IMPERIAL SERIAL KILLER
PEACE * D O E S * SUPPORT OUR TROOPS
DO NOT ENTER Oh, no. Never mind. That one was in front of Cousins Subs.
DON'T BELIEVE THE HYPE IT'S A SEQUEL
WAR TODAY BREEDS HATE FOR TOMORROW
AN APPOINTED PRESIDENT TERRORIZING BAGDAD WE MUST MAKE WAY FOR PEACE

We believe that as people living in the United States it is our responsibility to resist the injustices done by our government, in our names
Not in our name will you wage endless war there can be no more deaths no more transfusions of blood for oil
Not in our name will you invade countries bomb civilians, kill more children letting history take its course over the graves of the nameless
Not in our name will you erode the very freedoms you have claimed to fight for
Not by our hands will we supply weapons and funding for the annihilation of families on foreign soil
Not by our mouths will we let fear silence us
Not by our hearts will we allow whole peoples or countries to be deemed evil
Not by our will and Not in our name
We pledge resistance
We pledge alliance with those who have come under attack for voicing opposition to the war or for their religion or ethnicity
We pledge to make common cause with the people of the world to bring about justice, freedom and peace
Another world is possible and we pledge to make it real.
